History

Theresa village was established in 1769 as a logging town in the colonization of the Novohradské mountain country by the owner of the domain Gratzen, Johann Nepomuk Buquoy, who named it after his wife Theresa. Until the replacement of patrimonial regimes in 1850 it was part of the Novohradské rule and then became a part of the community Luschnitz. In the village a school, a church and an inn emerged. The inhabitants were German, they were expelled in 1945 and 1946. Until the 1950s the village bore the name of Czech Terci Ves and was then renamed Pohorská Ves. In 1960 there was incorporated along with Lužnice to Benešov nad Černou.

During the Cold War the city was at the Iron Curtain. After 1950 came residences for members of the Czechoslovak army. Almost all the neighboring villages were evacuated and destroyed or left to rot.

After the political changes of 1989 Pohorská Ves was on 1 July 1990 once again an independent municipality. The now again accessible place and its decades- long untouched nature have since been visited mainly by cyclists and skiers. In the area several nature reserves are reported. The National Nature Reserve jungle Žofín is not accessible and fenced since 1991 to protect against deer.
