The airport Pointe -a-Pitre ( PTP IATA Code, ICAO Code TFFR, French Pôle Caraïbes or Aéroport Aéroport Le Raizet ) is the main airport of the island of Guadeloupe. As the only place in Guadeloupe, he has the capacity for more widebody aircraft. He had 2010, approximately 1.7 million passengers. The airport is located on the island of Grande- Terre, about five kilometers north of Pointe- a-Pitre.

Pointe -à- Pitre is home base for Air Caraïbes and Air Antilles Express. Two Airbus A320 of Air France are based in Pointe -à- Pitre ( for flights to the Caribbean). From German-speaking countries, he can be reached via Paris -Orly with Air Caraïbes, Air France (also via Paris-Charles -de- Gaulle) or Corsairfly.

History

1965, the then still called Le Raizet airport was opened. The terminal was located on the south side. 1970 began with the landing of the first Boeing 747 days of tourism on the island. The name was changed after the completion of the new terminal on the north side of the square. To meet the ever-increasing numbers of passengers, a new terminal was built in the northern part of the 1990s, which was opened in 1996. In this now all flights are handled; it has five jetways.

Also a small cargo center was built. 2006 visited the Airbus A380 on a test flight, among others, the airport of Guadeloupe.

Infrastructure

The runway of the airport is 3.5 km long in a position to accommodate all wide-body aircraft. The terminal is designed for four million passengers a year. There are two flight clubs, Les Ailes Guadeloupéennes and the de l'Aviation Civile et Aéroclub de Guadeloupe.
