Tournament Rules

Freeze -Out System

At the start of the tournament takes place by drawing lots fixing the seats. The assigned stations may not be changed during the tournament.

Each participant will receive after payment of the entry fee ( entry fee, the buy-in ) the same game capital, for example, 300 units ( Units or Bucks ). Players must leave for all to see on the table their chips always, the insertion is not allowed.

In Freeze out system the blinds and the ante and Split Limit ( No Limit only the blinds or the Ante ) increases after a certain schedule - or, for example, five games - increased. As a result of this inflation, the game is getting more expensive, so that the participants gradually eliminated after one another.

The following table gives an example of increases:

Etc.

Each player gets as long as he hangs off at least one chip, a complete sheet. If a player of a coup from the chips, a side pot is played ( see below).

Participants who have no more tokens will be eliminated.

Race for chips

Before an increase in the Ante and the Blinds can be a so-called Race for chips, in which the chips to the value of the previous ante and the small blind, which are no longer even needed to be removed from the game.

Each participant will be his little tokens exchanged as far as possible into larger units. Then, each participant will receive a card for each remaining unit of the recoveries tokens.

Single Winner Race for chips

The player with the highest card gets after withdrawal of the tip of the entire amount: Put eg three players two twenties chips (3 x 2 x 20 = 120 ), then the top, namely confiscated 20 bucks, and the winner receives two fifties tokens.

Multiple Winner Race for chips

In this variant, players win with the highest card. In the above example, the player with the highest card and get the one with the second highest - this can of course, be the same person - a fifty per - chip.

In Race for chips the natural ranking of the cards it is ( starting with the highest ):

Ace - King - Queen - Jack - 10-9 - 8-7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2

If two players have the same card rank, the color decision ( starting with the highest ):

Spades ( ♠ ) - heart (♥) - Karo ( ♦ ) - Cross or club ( ♣ ).

Special feature: If a player has only one small chip as shown in the example a 20's and he loses the Race for chips, he gets the smallest valid chip (in this case the 50 ) of the dealer, as the rule states in a freeze out tournament: one must eliminated by a lost All In ( and not through the Race for chips).

Side Pots

Each participant has to get a valid hand, provide the ante. If a player runs out of chips during a coup (it is said, is the player in all ), then played a side pot, ie the main pot ( Main Pot) is taken aside. The remaining players continue to provide normal and give their inserts in the side pot (also side pot ). The winner only wins the pot ( or more pot ) in which he has bid on. In a single game, if necessary, several side pots are played.

For example, suppose there are still fighting three players A, B and C to the pot. A is 200, B decides to keep, but has only 50 bucks, C holds also, so all bets are equalized. The main pot is now composed of three times 50 units of A, B and C, as well as what was in it before, the side pot of 300 units, namely 150 of A and C. A and C now continue to fight and continue their further inserts in the side pot. If A ( or C) at the end of the best hand, so he wins the main and side pot because he has posited in every pot. If, however, B is the best hand, so B wins the main pot only because B was not involved in the side pot; this goes to A or C, depending on who can boast of these two the better hand.

Become inserts placed in a side pot, so be players who are all in, in deciding who opened a betting round, not taken into account; these are indeed no longer involved in the side pot.

Simultaneous elimination of several players

Sheaths in a coup two or more players at the same time, so the larger capital determines the moment of departure. Should this also be the same, so these players get after they have each a single card, and the placement is determined according to the rank of these cards. It applies the same ranking as in a Race for chips.

Prices

The order of retirement determines the placement of the individual player. The player, who last won the entire game capital, is the tournament winner. The players take the fight to the price ranks to finish the tournament in the money (in short: ITM, GV: "in the money "). Such a conclusion of the tournament will rarely also called money finish.

The prize pool will be divided among the winners according to the following or a similar scheme:

Rebuy and Add-on

Rebuy

In many tournaments, such as the European Poker Championship, it's the players after they lost their starting capital, allowed to buy back into the tournament against payment of an additional amount ( re-buy in rebuy or short ).

Rebuys are usually not allowed during the entire playing time, but usually limited to the low levels; the number of possible rebuys is set each in the tournament invitation.

Add-on

An add-on is another way the game capital ( between games ) through the purchase. Add- ons are, if at all, only offered at tournaments with re-buy option and are from the current capital independently. Add- ons are often possible (mostly in the first break, ie ) after the rebuy period and have the purchase - compared with the rebuy - usually on more favorable terms to.

The number of add- ons is usually limited to one.

Betting

In the U.S. and in the UK it is for larger poker tournaments is often the case that the participants can bet on the outcome of the tournament. The predominant type of bet this is the Calcutta auction; the Calcutta takes place either before the start of the tournament or after the first day - as well as participants who were already eliminated from the competition, can still win the tournament.

Supplements

A special type of tournament are sit and go tournaments. These tournaments are not held at fixed times, but begin when the required number of players has gathered.
