Polarkreis 18
Arctic Circle 18 was a pop band from Dresden, which evolved out of the band Jack of All Trades. Stylistically mix Arctic Circle 18 Pop, Synth -pop, post-rock and indie Tronic. Above all, the album 13 by Blur inspired the band to leave their punk and metal roots and turn to more experimental sounds.
History
Arctic Circle 18 was founded in 1997 Christmas in Dresden. It came out all trades from the previous projects, NBI, and Jack of Adrenaline. Before the year 2005 the band was at times only of the core members of robbers, Wenzel and Pasora.
The first release of the Arctic Circle 18 was a free five- track download album in 2004. A special feature was the first performed for visualization concert in Dresden on October 2, 2005 sound film.
2006 once the band took second place in f6 Music Award and was the winner of the plug- festivals, which they subsequently earned a recording contract with the label Motor Music. There her self-produced debut album Arctic Circle the positive reviews on 16 February 2007 appeared 18 ( mixed by Jochen Naaf ), eg in the Spex, the intro or got Spiegel Online.
In February 2008, the group appeared in the opening act of the tour in Germany of the Smashing Pumpkins. In October 2008, they released the title track alone, alone, the film Krabat. The song made it straight into the top 10 of the German singles charts and reached after three weeks at No. 1 on the charts. The German, English and Danish speaking Remix Single, alene of the rock band Nephew rose in mid-October 2008, # 3 on the Danish singles chart. The second album from the Arctic Circle 18 is titled The Colour of Snow and released on 17 October 2008. The sound of it was compared to the previous album Arctic Circle 18 significantly larger, pathetic and orchestral. Rammstein arranger Sven Helbig provided the necessary orchestral parts, which were recorded by the Babelsberg Film Orchestra. The subject has become a trademark of the band in the block of ice on the cover and in the artwork of the booklet was photographed by Matthias Popp.
On February 13, 2009 Arctic Circle were 18 with their second single from the album The Colour of Snow, but with a German and not a to be heard in the video English version, the state of Saxony in the Federal Vision Song Contest 2009 and reached the second place. With the introduction of The Colour of Snow in 5th place had Arctic Circle 18 in February 2009, two singles simultaneously. In the German singles Top Ten
The video for the title alone, alone, from the Arctic Circle 18 was one of the nominees for the music award Echo 2009 in the category Best Video and the same year they played as the opening act for Depeche Mode at the " Tour of the universe".
The album The Colour Of Snow reached 2010 in Germany the gold record for 100,000 units sold.
On 26 November 2010 the album was released free. The first single is called infinity Symphony and appeared on November 12, 2010.
End of June 2011 left Silvester Wenzel the group to future work on other musical projects.
In 2012, the Arctic Circle 18 decided to devote himself to different projects. While the singer Felix robbers touring together with Maximilian Hecker, Christian Friedel founded with Philip Makolies, Christian Grochau, Uwe Pasora and Ludwig Bauer, the band Woods of Birnam.
Origin of the band name
On the origin of the band name, in which it is loud guitarist Makolies a gag, there are different stories: According to an early interview with the band name originated from the random name of a sound file in studio work, which was later first then accepted for a song and as a group name. In a later interview the band the origin of the band name stated otherwise: The father of a friend had undertaken an expedition to the Arctic Circle still in GDR times. He was reported to be technically ill-equipped that had frozen him two toes. Thus, only eight toes he would have remained after the return. According to the Singer Felix robber told, however, that this misfortune had befallen his father.
