Properties

Content of the film is only difficult to put on a par with its predecessors. He represents a break in the series dar. Only the stereotypical characters are still a link. Numerous details distinguish the movie from all its predecessors:

  • The above central figure of Carey Mahoney, played by Steve Guttenberg, appeared for the first time no longer. Guttenberg had made it clear in advance that he would not occur in any of the following films of the Police Academy series again. However, he now belongs to those who work for an eighth part of the series.
  • Nick Lassard is introduced as the nephew of Commandant Lassard. The figure wears similar traits as Mahoney.
  • This figure is also the last to be introduced in the series and re-emerges in one of the following films.
  • Some other characters from the previous films as Zed, Sweetchuck and the family Kirkland also no longer appear.
  • The previously large family of continuous Police Academy characters thus it shrinks noticeably. This hard core of the figures ( with minor changes) and, although significantly reduced again, form the center of the occupation in the 6th film in the 7th film.
  • For the first time appeared the Blue Oyster Club no longer on. Thus, a kind of running gag is gone from the series.
  • For the first time, the unnamed city in which played the previous Police Academy movies, leave and called Miami with a specific venue.
  • The slapstick elements take too massive. In particular, commander Lassard solves unintentionally from many such deposits, which always make the gangsters life difficult.
  • Overall, the role of commander converts. He moves more to the center and is rewarded as highly capable and deserving officer, but this is in stark contrast to the representation of the figure, which protrudes neither intelligence nor different skills.
  • For the first time, the usual in many Hollywood films struggle between a good and an evil party plays the central role. In all previous films were the bad guys either just troublemakers (eg Zed ), or were introduced only towards the end of the film and remained nameless.
  • Harris and Proctor as "bad" cops do not even reach more intermediate successes in contrast to earlier films. Instead, it all ends, what they are trying in failure, which serves as a comedy element.
  • From this film, the training of police officers plays no significant role. The name Police Academy is therefore more brand for content description.

Trivia

In the movie quite faithfully on a famous scene in the cult movie "The Jaws " ( original: Jaws, 1975) is played. The shark is however marketed by Tackleberry, so that the boy on the air mattress, nothing happens.
