Polynesia Cup

The Polynesia - Cup was a 1994-2000 three times been registered competition for the five national football teams of Polynesia. Eligible were American Samoa, Cook Islands, Samoa, Tahiti and Tonga.

In the years 1994, 1998 and 2000, the tournament served as a qualification for the football Ozeanienmeisterschaft 1996, 1998 and 2000.

At the tournament in 1996 it was the " Polynesian " part of the first qualifying round of the Oceania zone for the Football World Cup 1998 in France, with the winner a play-off of for a place in the second round of World Cup qualifiers against the Second Melanesia Cup had to dispute. For this reason, American Samoa (then not a FIFA member ) is not authorized to start. Tahiti was set as a supposedly play the strongest team in the region for the second round of World Cup qualifiers.
