Pontiac Moon

The Pontiac Moon is an American road movie from the year 1994.

Action

During Apollo 11 is on the way to the moon, father decides Bellamy with his son from a small town in California to Craters of the Moon National Monument in Idaho to go to at the time to be there when the moon landing takes place. Washington Bellamy is an adventurous man, his wife Katherine, however, is plagued by panic attacks since she lost her unborn child in a car accident and has not left her house in the last seven years. And for Andy, her son, the whole is a great adventure, as he done so far neither a road trip, nor has ever left his hometown.

Father and son make spontaneously in a 1949 Pontiac on the 1776 miles long way, without the mother to say about it. When they learn what their family intends it overcomes their fear and moves them to the other car, a Amphicar, afterwards. Father and son go on adventures, including an engine breakdown, after which they steal a replacement engine. For the mother, the drive to a journey into the life, she unfolds her spilled senses and abilities.

At the destination the father drives the car to a crater to scrap. At the same moment the mother arrives, the family is reunited and overcome the burden of the trauma of the mother. Together they deliver in the remaining car a chase with the police, to the border to Canada, they traverse the amphibious car, while the U.S. police stops on the shore.

Criticism

" From a road movie full of discoveries and insights to a bizarre parable about the unity of the ( American ) family, the striking and unreal as a fairy tale indeed developed, but it just involves a certain charm. "

Background

The film opened on 4 November 1994 in theaters, and has since October 25, 1995 available as German -language VHS tape.

The two main characters Danson and Steenburgen married a year later. Both played previously in the sitcom Two in ink.
