Poonamallee (Tamil: பூந்தமல்லி Pūntamalli [pu ː n̪d̪əmal ː i]) is a city in the suburb area of Chennai (Madras ), the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The population is around 57,000 ( 2011 census ).

Poonamallee is located about 20 kilometers west of the city of Chennai in Tiruvallur district and is part of the metropolitan region of Chennai. The city is the capital of Poonamallee taluks. The municipality covers an area of ​​Poonamallee 25.55 square kilometers.
