Poopó Municipality

The municipality Poopó ( [ po.o.po ] ) is a district in the department of Oruro in the highlands of South American Andes State of Bolivia.

The municipality Poopó is one of three Municipalities in the province Poopó and bordered on the northeast by the province Pantalà Dalence, in the northwest of the province of Cercado, on the southwest by the municipality of Pazña, and to the southeast by the municipality of Antequera.

The central location of the municipality is the village of 1,809 inhabitants with Poopó (2001) in the central part of the county.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the eastern edge of the Poopó Bolivian Altiplano before the Cordillera Azanaques, which is a part of the mountain range of the Cordillera Central. The climate is a typical diurnal climate where the temperature variations during the day be stronger than during the year.

The mean average temperature of the region is about 8 ° C (see climate chart ) and varies between 3 ° C in June and July and 11 ° C from November to March. The annual precipitation is about 350 mm, with a pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly rainfall less than 10 mm, and significant rainfall only from December to March with 50 to 90 mm ​​month precipitation.
