Portland Thorns FC

The Portland Thorns FC is a women's football franchise from Portland, Oregon. It was founded in 2012 and plays in the National Women's Soccer League, the highest league in women's soccer in the U.S. since 2013.

The franchise belongs, as well as the MLS franchise Portland Timbers, the Peregrine Sports LLC.

History

On 24 November 2012, the creation of a new women's football professional league in the U.S. was announced. It was also announced that a team of Portland will participate. On December 13, 2012 it was announced that the new franchise from Portland will bear the name Portland Thorns FC. On December 15, 2012 it was announced that the new League National Women's Soccer League is hot.

On 31 August 2013, the Thorns place in the finals of the playoffs with a 2-0 win over Western New York Flash by. Thus, the Portland Thorns U.S. champion in 2013 are in women's football, bringing the first championship of the newly founded NWSL. In the regular season the team finished in third place.

The Portland Thorns FC plays its home games at Jeld -Wen Field. It has a capacity of 20 438 spectators. The men's team the Portland Timbers Major League Soccer from the first-class wearing their home games there.
