SC Bern (since 1967)

The PostFinance Arena in Bern is currently 17'131 places the largest ice rink in Switzerland and one of the largest ice rinks in Europe. It was built in 1967 and 1969 covered. Especially characteristic is the huge Admission ramp with a capacity of 10'331 places - the world's largest in a hockey rink.

The PostFinance Arena was the main venue for the Ice Hockey World Championship 2009. Arena was therefore propose and extensively during the 2008 /09 season rehabilitated without impairing the operation of gambling.

Audience

The PostFinance Arena, which formerly ice rink Allmendfeld, Allmendfeld Stadium or Arena Berne was said that the hockey club SC Bern serves as a venue, with the over 16,000 viewers throughout Europe the leading position occupied on average.

The audience fell in the meantime, due to absence of success, so that eg in the season 2000/ 01 on average " only" about 10'276 spectators attended the games. However, within four years, the average rose again and moved since then between 15,000 and 16,000 viewers per game.

In the 2008/2009 season of SC Bern presented at the PostFinance Arena with 16'203 spectators on average for the fifth consecutive year, a European record.

Rehabilitation

With regard to the Ice Hockey World Championship for Men 2009 Bern Arena was renovated for 105 million Swiss francs by the HRS Hauser Rutishauser Suter Totalunternehmung AG in Bern comprehensively rebuilt and was renamed the PostFinance Arena PostFinance by the sponsor.

Core pieces of the renovation work were:

  • Standing area and seating

The interior of the stadium remained largely intact, especially the steep ramp with over 10,000 standing places. Through the conversion of the two upper bleachers behind the gates and the redesign of the VIP area about 1,500 additional seats were created. The PostFinance Arena is now offering 17'131 spectators.

  • New VIP zone

The previous VIP zone was demolished and integrated into a new five- storey extension. A total of 21 VIP boxes emerged. The number of VIP seats was increased to about 500. In addition, growing restaurant establishments and the new media are housed.

  • Training hall and service center

The five-story annex serves as a service center. The low-lying public ice rink in front of the stadium has given an underground training hall with 500 spectator seats, and 140 additional parking spaces for the service center. New part of the ground-floor space between curling hall and the PostFinance Arena is used in winter as a public ice rink. In summer the area for various events is available.

  • New audio and video technology

The media module over the rink, to be replaced by a modern version. Likewise, the entire sound system in the ice rink and the surrounding premises was renewed.

  • Imposing facade

The outer shell of the PostFinance Arena was covered with cube- like elements that can be attractively illuminated at night. In addition, the PostFinance Arena received a new stadium logo, which can easily be seen from several sides.

The stadium is indeed designed primarily for ice hockey, but can also be used for other sports and events:
