Poul-Erik Høyer Larsen

Poul -Erik Høyer Larsen ( born September 20, 1965 in Esbønderup ) is a Danish badminton player, Olympic gold medalist and Badminton official.

Career

In the early 1990s he began to kick frost in the footsteps of Morten. As one of the very few top European player, he was able to stand against the seemingly all powerful Asians in the big tournaments. He drew attention to himself, when he retired at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona in the quarter -finals against the eventual silver medalist Ardy Wiranata (Indonesia).

The most successful year had the left-hander in 1996 when he won the gold medal in Atlanta at the Olympics. This year, he defended the title in 1995, according to Men's Singles of All England Championships and was again after 1992 and 1994 European champion. He also won this year's Men's Singles at the Badminton Swiss Open.

In addition to numerous other tournaments he won, among others, the Swedish Open 1992 and 2003, the Russian Open.

In February 2007, Høyer Larsen was elected vice-president of the Danish Badminton Association, 2010 President of Badminton Europe. Since 2010 he is also a member of the Hall of Fame of the Danish Sports. In 2013 he became president of the Badminton World Federation.
