Peter Høeg Gade, Peter actually Gade Christensen ( born December 14, 1976 in Aalborg, Jutland ) is a former Danish badminton player.

Career

Peter Gade is considered one of the most successful badminton player of all time. He belongs in Denmark among the most popular athletes in the country. From 1998 to 2001 he led the world rankings and won every major international tournament. Among his greatest successes include victories at the All England in 1999, the Korea Open (2000, 2001, 2005 ), the Japan Open (1999, 2000) and the Danish Open ( 1998, 2001, 2008). He also won in 1998, 2000, 2004, 2006 and 2010 European champion in men's singles. At the European Championships in 2002 and 2008, he was unable to participate due to injury.

However, not managed to become world champion or Olympic champion. In the 1999 World Cup, he failed in the semifinals. 2001 succeeded Gade the finals, but was defeated there against Hendrawan in two sets. In the 2005 World Cup Peter Gade failed in the semi-final on world number one Lin Dan, Taufik Hidayat of the Indonesians lost the final. At the World Championships in Madrid in 2006, he retired from the set at number 5 Chen Hong with 17-21 21-15 12-21 in the quarter- finals. Overall Gade took five medals at World Championships.

His participation at the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004 were not also crowned with big success. In Sydney in 2000, he failed in the semi-finals in three sets, in 2004, he defeated Chien Yu- Hsiu and Nikhil Kanetkar in the first two rounds. In the quarterfinals, but he was defeated by Taufik Hidayat Indonesians with 15-12, 15-12.

His goal is to win the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Gade not reached. He was defeated in the quarterfinals of the later Olympic champion Lin Dan clearly in straight sets ( 13-21, 16-21), yet he was the best European Olympic badminton tournament.

Peter Gade is known on the court for his fairness and his fighting spirit. The latter let him get through a difficult period of rehabilitation after suffering a knee injury in Brunei at the World Grand Prix Final 2001. After two surgeries (2001 and 2002) and many setbacks and longer breaks in training, he managed with hard training in March 2003 the leap back into the top 10 in the world rankings.

Peter Gade ended his international career as a player in October 2012 at the French Open. An official farewell match was held on December 27, 2012 in Copenhagen against Lin Dan instead.

Private

Camilla Høeg, a former Danish handball player, was married to Peter Gade until February 2012, brought in October 2004, the daughter Nanna to the world. 2008 Peter Gade was the second time father.
