Pragal belongs to the district of Setúbal in Almada, has an area of 2.27 km ² and has 7174 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011).

The most famous landmark of the area is 28 meter high statue of Christ Cristo - Rei, high above the Tejo at the Ponte 25 de Abril. The statue stands on the boundary Almada. The community is connected to the Portuguese rail network since 1999 on the Linha do Sul. The Pragal station is serviced along with FERTAGUS - regional trains also Intercidades trains on the CP and is the only long-distance railway station in the Margem Sul do Tejo. The connection to the neighboring cities and Cacilhas Almada is handled by the rapid transit Metro Sul do Tejo.
