Příbor

Příbor ( German Freiberg in Moravia ) is a city in north-eastern Moravia in the Czech Republic. It extends along the banks of the river Lubina. On three sides it is surrounded by foothills of the Beskydy Mountains with views of Štramberská trúba, castle Hukvaldy and Radhosť. The town has 8,789 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2003) on an area of ​​22.14 km ².

History

The town was founded during the initial colonization phase of Moravia. Was first mentioned in 1251 in a Vriburch confirmation certificate of Margrave Ottokar for Frank Hückeswagen establishing a church. Since 1294 there was a bailiwick in Vriburch. Over time, the name changed in Freiberg or Przybor. The city, which came to the bishopric of Olomouc in the 14th century, marked by the school system. A major contribution to this was at the High School of Piaristen, which was founded in 1694.
