Prijepolje

Prijepolje ( Serbian Cyrillic Пријепоље ) is a municipality and city in Okrug Zlatibor in the southwestern mountainous region of Serbia. The city Prijepolje lies in the valley of the River Lim at an altitude of about 450 m, surrounded by Zlatar and Jadovnik Mountains. Not far from the city center, in the gorge of the river Mileševa, are of the same monastery Mileševa and the ruins Hisardžik from the Middle Ages.

Population

In the 2011 census, the municipality had 36 713 inhabitants, the city itself 13,068 inhabitants. Compared with the previous 2002 census, the municipality has thus lost more than 4,000 inhabitants.

With about 57 % presented at the 2002 census, the Serbs, the majority of the population in the community, followed by the Bosnians with about 32 % and the ethnic Muslims with about 9%.
