Princess Antoinette of Saxe-Altenburg

Antoinette Charlotte Marie Josephine Karoline Frida von Sachsen- Altenburg ( born April 17, 1838 in Bamberg, † October 13, 1908 in Berchtesgaden ) was a Princess of Saxe -Altenburg and by marriage Duchess of Anhalt.

Life

Antoinette was the daughter of Prince Edward of Saxe- Altenburg (1804-1852) from his first marriage with Amalie (1815-1841), daughter of Prince Karl of Hohenzollern- Sigmaringen.

She married on 22 April 1854 in Altenburg later to become the Duke Friedrich I of Anhalt ( 1831-1904 ). The marriage took place for dynastic reasons and Antoinette married one of the richest German princes. On the occasion of the wedding of a commemorative medal was coined.

Together with her ​​daughter Marie in 1892 she gave the impetus for the founding of the Anhalt Diakonissenanstalt. After the Duchess of Antoinettenweg is in the Selke valley, the named Antoinettenstraße and Antoinettenlyzeum in Dessau.
