Pro Mazda Championship
The Pro Mazda Championship (up to 2012 Star Mazda Series) is an American single-seater racing series, which is intended primarily as a training ground. The race of the series are often held within the framework program of major events, such as in the race of the IndyCar Series. Initially there was the series of six divisions, all of them only in certain parts of the U.S. fought out their own championship. Meanwhile these divisions were combined into one series. The series is part of the Road to Indy system of the IndyCar Series.
It is a racing series in which many parts of the vehicle are prescribed by the regulations here, so that the cars on the track are almost the same and it depends on the driver. The cars are manufactured by Race Cars of Pacoima, CA, the motors come from Mazda. The vehicles were built so that they are relatively cheap, so teams can use this series for its entry into formula racing port. Since the 2006 season, the season opening race at Sebring, Florida, was one day before the 12 - hour race at Sebring discharged.
The series is regarded as a springboard for talented racers. Thus it was possible, for example, riders like Scott Speed , Marco Andretti and Michael McDowell, climb through the series in higher motor sport classes.
