Conceptual distinction must be made between one prophet in the sense of prophetic books, and individuals who are called prophets.
This list comprises of biblical prophets
- Persons which are referred to in the Bible as appointed and commissioned by God prophets or seers, men of God, etc.: this one particular scripture is given.
- Individuals who are treated according to the Talmud in Judaism as Nebi'im ( prophets ), even if they are not explicitly mentioned in the Bible as follows: These are marked in italics, the scripture their first occurrence is given.
- Books of the Tanakh, which are called "prophets". The " front " ( pre-literate ) and " rear " ( font ) prophets in the Tanakh are listed in order of their appearance according to the Jewish Bible canon.
- Prophets of the New Testament are listed alphabetically.
- As a "false prophet " called biblical characters are not listed.
