Pulau Tiga

Pulau Tiga (English Tiga Iceland ) is one of the Malaysian state of Sabah belonging volcanic island at the entrance to the open South China Sea Kimani's Bay.

Geography

The island lies about 10 kilometers northeast of Cape Nosong, the southern boundary of Kimani's Bay. The strait between Cape Nosong and Pulau Tiga Tiga is called Channel ( Tiga channel) and is the main shipping route for access to Kimani Bay represents the island with the exception of the tip heavily forested in the southeast and is surrounded by numerous reefs.

Formation

The emergence of Pulau Tiga was triggered by the great earthquake on the Philippine island of Mindanao on 21 September 1897. The earthquake, a volcanic eruption off the coast of Sabah was triggered first a 20 m wide island was formed by the. Over the next forty years was followed by further volcanic eruptions and eruptions of two nearby mud volcanoes that together Pulau Tiga could grow to its present size. The last eruption took place in 1941.

Pulau Tiga National Park

Pulau Tiga, together with the Pulau Besar Kalampunian, Pulau Kalampunian this and the surrounding marine area to 158 square kilometers of Pulau Tiga National Park. Since 1933, listed as a forest reserve in 1978, the islands were designated as a national park.
