Tambisan Island

Pulau Tambisan is an island belonging to Malaysia on the eastern edge of the open to the Sulu Sea Tangusa Bay. It is predominantly forested tight. Its maximum length is in east-west direction approximately 9.5 km, the maximum width of about 4 km. [Note 1] A narrow strait separates the island from the mainland. The island rises evenly 18-21 m from the sea; the trees reach this height to 61 m.

History

The future head of state of Sabah, Sakaran Dandai in 1950 began working as an administrative employee of the British Government on Tambisan Iceland.

The current head of state of Sabah, Juhar Mahiruddin, was born in 1953 on Pulau Tambisan.

Pulau Tambisan incident

Tambisan part because of its unique location at the eastern tip of Sabah to the risk of pirate attacks islands of Sabah. In 1993, here the so-called Pulau Tambisan incident in which the 21 Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment was attacked by two pirate speedboats with occupied and engaged in a firefight occurred. The incident ended with the death of two pirates and three injured.
