Quarteto em Cy

Quarteto em Cy (Quartet in Cy, by a play on words of Vinícius de Moraes) is a four-piece Brazilian female vocal group of the Música Popular Brasileira and the Bossa Nova.

Biography

The group was founded in the early 1960s by the four sisters cýva, Cynara, Cybele and Cylene ( de Sá Leite ). They appeared initially together with Vinícius de Moraes, Dorival Caymmi, Baden Powell de Aquino and Oscar Castro- Neves in the " boates " ( small nightclubs ) of Rio on, and sang primarily Bossa Nova. Some pictures from that time have appeared on the record label Elenco.

1966, the group took a successful tour of the United States. After returning to Brazil in 1968 could Cynara and Cybele in a duet some successes, including Chico Buarque and Tom Jobim with; of an impending U.S. tour they had to be replaced by the singers Cynthia and Cymíramis. However, the band split in 1970 in the U.S..

In 1972, a start-up by the singers cýva, Cynara, Soninha and Dorinha; Dorinha was replaced in 1980 by Cybele. The group is in this occupation to be active with recordings and performances, including with renowned Brazilian artists like Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento, Gonzaguinha, Ivan Lins and Carlos Lyra. The group is especially popular in Japan, the U.S., Latin America, Spain and Portugal.
