Radvaň nad Dunajom

Radvaň nad Dunajom (Hungarian Dunaradvány - to 1863 Radvány ) is a municipality in southwestern Slovakia, with 717 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Komárno, a circle of Nitriansky kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in the extreme south of Slovakia on the left bank of the Danube in the Slovak Danube lowland. On the opposite side of the Danube, the Hungarian community Neszmély. The center is located at an altitude of 120 m nm and is located 20 km from Komárno, 30 miles from Štúrovo.

Administratively divided the community into the church parts Bystrička (Hungarian Baloghpuszta ) Radvaň nad Dunajom and Žitava (also called " Žitavská Tôň "; Hungarian Zsitvatő, older Zsitvatorok ).

History

The district Žitavská Tôň is a significant archaeological site, with finds from the Bronze, Hallstatt and Roman times. The main town was first mentioned in 1267 as Radowan writing. In the past, fisheries and mills were significant, today the majority of the population works in agriculture.

A significant event is the year ended November 11, 1606 Peace of Zsitvatorok, which ended the Long Turkish War and almost 60 years retained its validity.

Until 1919 part of which is in the county Komárom place the Kingdom of Hungary and was then Czechoslovakia. On the basis of the First Vienna Award, it was 1938-45 again in Hungary.
