This had become necessary to build two new national radio stations, which should reach a large part of the country. Here, the first program was named Rete Rossa (German red network ) and the second the name Rete Azzurra (German blue network). These names were chosen to indicate that the program at any time provided a different style program, each program but nominally had the same status.

After the introduction of the third program on October 1, 1950, on 1 January 1952, renamed after a further restructuring, in which each of the transmitters RAI his own unique identity got Rete Rossa in programs Nazionale (German national program ).
