Raimund von zur-Mühlen

Raimund von Zur Mills ( born November 10, 1854 in Good New Tennasilm at Fellin, † December 9, 1931 in Steyning, Sussex, England ) was a German tenor and singing teacher. His song interpretations are legendary.

Life

Raimund von Zur Mills was a student of Auguste Hohenschild, Felix Schmidt, Adolf Schulze, Julius Stockhausen and Clara Schumann. He made his debut in 1878, together with Hans Schmidt in Riga. Subsequently, he worked continually extending his singing ways, including with Manuel Garcia, Beniamino Carelli, Jenny Lind, Romain Bussine and Pauline Viardot.

He is considered the founder of the independent genus concert recital. His song interpretations and be specialized on song interpretation lessons were for the development of the independent subject of the song singing of great importance.

By Johannes Brahms quoted as saying " Finally, finally I have my singer found! " With Clara Schumann, he designed Schumann recitals. She made him the way to London, where he gave his first concert in 1883. In 1907 he moved to England with residences in London and Steyning. His last stay in Germany to 1913/1914 have been in Berlin, where he gave a master class. Here he met the last time Monika Hunnius, writer and voice teacher who has supported him in the years 1904-1911 on a regular basis in the conduct of his singing courses at Castle Fellin or in Neuhäuser, and with whom he had a deep friendship.

His valuable collection of documents, music and works of art was destroyed in 1930 when a major fire in his property in Steyning.
