Ralfs Freibergs

Ralf Freiberg (born 17 May 1991, Riga) is a Latvian ice hockey player on the position of the defender. Since 2012 he plays for the Bowling Green State University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Career

Freiberg began his career at HK Prizma Riga, for whom he made ​​his debut in the Latvian Hockey League in the 2008/ 09 season. He then moved to Dinamo- Juniors Riga, the youth team of Dinamo Riga, which contested the Belarusian Extraliga, and completed 33 games.

During the 2009/10 season changed Freiberg, who had been selected by any team in the NHL Entry Draft, to North America. There he joined the Texas Tornado of the U.S. Junior League North American Hockey League. In the season 2010/11 the Latvians made ​​the breakthrough, when he finished the season as the top scoring defender the league with 55 points scorer in 53 games. Subsequently, he was appointed to the first All-Star team the NAHL and honored as the best defender in the league.

For the following season Ralfs Freiberg joined the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League. There, he scored 43 points in his debut season, of which 35 templates in 60 games, and was again the top scoring defense in the league. At the end of the season he was appointed to the Second All-Star team of the USHL. For the season 2012/13 he enrolled at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, one, however, was initially excluded from the game, the NCAA, as he had already played in his career in a professional league. Finally, he came up with eight missions in which he scored seven points.

Internationally

Ralf Freiberg represented Latvia for the first time at the U18 Junior World Championship Division I in 2008 and 2009, when he with the team promotion to the top division. Also in the U20 World Junior Championships in 2009 and 2010 he was in the squad of the Latvian team. In the U20 Junior World Championship Division I 2011 he led Latvia to the promotion to the top division and was awarded as the best defender of the tournament.

For the Men's National Team Freiberg was the first time in the World Cup 2013 on the ice. On January 7, 2014 he was appointed to the Executive of the Latvian national ice hockey team for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and is the only player in the NCAA, who will attend the ice hockey tournament.
