2011 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships

The 35th Ice Hockey World Championships U20 juniors of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships were in 2011 in the age group of under- twenties ( U20). In total, between 12 December 2010 and 18 January, 2011 41 teams in the six tournaments in the top division and the divisions I to III part.

The world champion was the 13th time the Russian team that could defeat in the final of the world champion from Canada 5-3. The German team could not remain in the top division without tournament victory and rose again from the Switzerland finished in fifth place in the top division, thus confirming the fourth last year. Austria was third in Group B of Division I and just missed the chances of promotion to the top division.

Top Division

The U-20 World Championship was held from 26 December 2010 to 5 January 2011 in the U.S. cities of Buffalo and Niagara Falls. It was played at HSBC Arena ( 18,690 seats) in Buffalo and Niagara University Dwyer Arena in Lewiston with 2,100 seats.

At the tournament take part ten teams playing in two groups of five teams. The world champion secured Russia, which through five consecutive goals in the final period with a 5-3 win against Canada in the final. It was the 13th overall title for the Russians and the first since 2003.

Mode

After the group matches of the preliminary round, the two group winners qualify directly for the semi-finals. The runners-up and third - ever deny a qualifier for the semi-finals. The Fourth and Fifth of the group will contest - if you bring the result of the direct encounter of the first round - the relegation round and thereby determine two relegated to Division I.

The World Cup Group A in the Division I was discharged in Bobruisk in Belarus from the 13th to the 19th December 2010. The games were held with 7,151 locations in the Bobruisk Arena.

Group A in Tallinn, Estonia

The tournament Group A in the Division II took place from 13 to 19 December 2010 in the Estonian capital Tallinn instead. The matches were played in the Premia Jäähall, which can accommodate about 750 spectators.

Group B Miercurea Ciuc, Romania

From 13 to 19 December 2010, the World Cup Group B in Division II in Miercurea Ciuc in Romania. Venue of the Games was the arena vakar Lajos Műjégpálya with 4,000 seats.

The game between Romania and Australia was nearly three minutes ahead of schedule aborted after it had come to blows among the players.

Division III

The Tournament Division III was fought in the Mexican capital Mexico City from 9 to 18 January 2011. The games were held with 3,500 seats in the arena La Pista Lomas Verdes. The only exception was the first game of the host against Bulgaria. This was played on a temporary rink with stands for 50,000 spectators in the Plaza de la Constitucion.
