Corey Mapes

Corey Mapes ( born June 22, 1992 in Heilbronn ) is a German professional ice hockey player who is since 2013 in the Düsseldorf EG of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga under contract.

Career

Corey Mapes came at the age of six years to the sport of ice hockey and went through the youth department of the Heilbronner EC to boyhood. In 2004 he moved to SC Bietigheim- Bissingen, for whom he played until 2007 in the student division. During this time he came to the attention of talent scout Adler Mannheim whose hockey boarding school he attended from 2007. The close coupling of equipment for exercise and school life Mapes was able to master the school despite intense exercise. With the young eagles he was between 2008 and 2010 for three consecutive times German champion in the German Junior League (DNL ). In the fall of 2009, he graduated from parallel five games for the Heilbronner Falken in the 2nd Bundesliga, which he first had assignments in a professional league.

In a game between the ERC Ingolstadt and Düsseldorf EC, in whose team played Mapes Since 2013, he suffered on January 28, 2014 a body check an opponent Jean -François Boucher a fracture of the third lumbar vertebra. His club then applied to an investigation of the DEL against Boucher, the accused was a challenge. This view joined the DEL Disciplinary Committee and Boucher occupied by a suspension of six games, and a fine of 1,800 €. The day after the game Mapes has undergone emergency surgery. Media reported that due to the injuries threatened paralysis, but he was able to leave already after two weeks with a good prognosis the hospital.
