Ramchandra Gandhi

Ramchandra Gandhi ( born June 9, 1937 † 13 June, 2007 New Delhi ) was an Indian philosopher and author. He was a grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.

Life

Gandhi studied philosophy at the universities of Delhi and Oxford. After receiving his doctorate, he taught in the UK, at Princeton University, U.S., and India in Hyderabad and Shantiniketan; In 1999 he was Visiting Professor of Philosophy at the Panjab University ( " Aurobindo Golden Jubilee Chair" ).

In India, he was a philosopher and author of several books, including about his famous grandfather, became known. He also wrote plays, including Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Swami Vivekananda, Francis of Assisi and Ramana Mahanti. In Germany known his theological treatises, among others about Christ and Gandhi. He was a longtime member of the international humanitarian hub of India.

He died on 13 June 2007 at the Cultural IIC in the capital Delhi from heart failure.

Family

Ramchandra Gandhi was the second of four sons of the Indian journalist and editor of The Hindustan Times, Devdas Gandhi, the fourth son of Mahatma Gandhi, and of Laxmiben Gandhi, the daughter of C. Rajagopalachari, a freedom fighter and the first Governor General of independent India.

His brother Gopalkrishna Gandhi Governor of West Bengal since 2004, his eldest brother, the historian Rajmohan Gandhi.
