Ramón Tapia

Ramón Tapia Zapata ( born March 17, 1932 in Antofagasta, † 11 April 1984) was a boxer from Chile and silver medalist at middleweight, the Olympic Games of 1956.

Career

In addition to Carlos Lucas and Claudio Barrientos, he participated in the 16th Summer Olympic Games 1956 in Melbourne, Australia as one of three boxers from Chile. While Lucas and Barrientos excreting each with a bronze medal in the Bantam or light heavyweight from the games, Tapia won the silver medal in the middleweight division. He defeated it Zbigniew Piórkowski from Poland, as Julius Torma from Czechoslovakia and Gilbert Chapron of France before he only lost in the final against Gennady Schatkow from the Soviet Union.

In 1959 he turned pro, but was unsuccessful. In the fight for the Chilean championship, he lost by KO Humberto Loayza. In June 1963, he ended his short professional career with two wins and five defeats.
