Ramón Vargas

Ramón Vargas ( born September 11, 1960 in Mexico City) is a Mexican tenor.

Life, career

Vargas has performed as an opera singer in many large houses: at the State Operas in Munich and Vienna, Covent Garden in London, La Scala in Milan, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, on the New York Met, Chicago Lyric Opera, Grand Opera Houston Opera and Los Angeles. He became famous especially with the interpretation of passages from Verdi, Puccini, Massenet, Gounod, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti.

Stations were in his musical life: the boys' choir of the Basilica of Guadalupe, the Cardenal Miranda Institute (Teacher Education), the first prize in 1982 at the national Carlo Morelli competition, then the debut in the opera house of Mexico City with Verdi's " Falstaff ". In 1986 he won the Caruso Competition in Milan. This was followed by the Opera Studio of the Vienna State Opera, Lucerne, Zurich, Marseilles, Vienna State Opera and the Opéra de Bastille in Paris. At the Salzburg Festival he starred in the title role of Mozart's Idomeneo. In 2010 he was at the Bavarian State Opera Jason Johann Simon Mayr's Medea in Corinto. 2013/14 is Vargas at the Vienna State Opera Don Carlo ( Don Carlo ), Un ballo in maschera ( Gustaf III. ), Manon ( Chevalier des Grieux ) and La Bohème ( Rodolfo ) occupied.

Vargas lives with his wife, Amalia, and his two sons, Fernando and Rodrigo, in Vienna.
