Raphaël Burtin

Raphael Burtin ( born February 9, 1977 in Bonneville ) is a French former alpine skier, who specialized in the discipline of giant slalom. At the World Championships and the World Cup he reached each a top 10 result. His older brother Nicolas was also skier.

Career

After participating in FIS races Burtin started from December 1995 at the European Cup. In the European Cup 1999/2000 season he scored in the giant slalom four wins and two second places. He won so superior to the giant slalom standings and was ranked fifth in the overall standings.

The first start in the World Cup had the Frenchman on 14 January 1997 in the giant slalom in Adelboden, where he is not qualified for the second round. The next World Cup competition took place only on 25 October 1998. Giant slalom in Sölden, he reached number 27 and took his first World Cup points. This season Burtin also denied his only two super Gs in the World Cup, but without being able to score. In January 1999, Burtin reached in Adelboden already a 13th place in the giant slalom and came at the 1999 World Cup in Vail as best Frenchman to 10th place - this remained his only World Cup. On 26 February 2000, he drove in the giant slalom in Yongpyong ninth, reaching his first and only World Cup place in the top ten. At this result he was no longer zoom in the next five years.

At the beginning of the season 2004/ 05 Burtin crashed in the giant slalom in Soelden, pulling to a torn ACL in his right knee. As a result, he could not deny this winter more races. After his injury he scored in the 2005/06 season three places and he finished eleventh in the giant slalom World Cup 20th place. At the 2006 Olympics in Turin he went to court 21 On December 8, 2007 fell Burtin in Bad Kleinkirchheim again hard and pulled several broken ribs and injuries to the knee, the season was so prematurely to an end. In the 2008 /09 season he could enter no more World Cup points. By starting at the French Championships in March 2009, Burtin ended his career.
