Raphael Marcel Wood Deppe ( born September 28, 1989 in Kaiserslautern ) is a German pole vaulter. His biggest success is winning the gold medal at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow. He is also co-owner of the world record in the junior category.

Biography

Wood Deppe was adopted at the age of two years shortly after his birth, according to other sources. With the pole vault wood Deppe began at the age of ten years. He attended the Helmholtz -Gymnasium Two bridges on which he 2009, the Abitur. Since summer 2010 he is studying via distance learning at the FH Ansbach International Management for top athletes. He belongs to the LAZ two bridges and is sporting a soldier in the sports promotion group Neubiberg the Bundeswehr.

Career

On 28 June 2008 he presented in Biberach with 5.80 m a junior world record. He leveled so that the existing since 1989 junior world record of the Russian Maxim Tarasov. At the Track World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz in 2008 he won the gold medal (5.50 m). At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, he qualified with 5.65 m for the final round that finished eighth.

In the U-23 European Championships in Kaunas in 2009 he won the gold medal with 5.65 meters. At the World Championships in Daegu, he did not make it into the finals, with 5,50 m he left. With 5.77 meters, he finished second at the German championships in 2012. With the same amount he won in the same year at the European Championships in Helsinki the bronze medal and achieved his first podium at international championships in the adult area. At the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, he won the bronze medal with a new personal best of 5.91 m.

In the winter of 2012/13 he moved from coach Andrei Tivontchik in the Munich training group of Chauncey Johnson with Malte Mohr and Fabian Schulze.

On June 6, 2013 Holzdeppe presented at the Diamond League meeting in Rome one of his best performance and beat it the first time, the Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie. The biggest success of his career, he scored at the World Championships 2013 in Moscow, when he became World Champion with 5.89 m in front of the French Lavillenie who had required more trials for the same jump height.
