Rasbora

Rotschwanzbärbling ( Rasbora borapetensis )

Rasbora is a genus of danios ( Rasborinae ). The freshwater fish living in South and Southeast Asia.

Rasbora was described in 1859 by the Dutch physician and naturalist Pieter Bleeker. Generic type is the first asked in Leuciscus Rasbora cephalotaenia ( Bleeker, 1852).

Dissemination

The distribution of the genus Rasbora extends from eastern Pakistan to Sumatra, Borneo, Java, Bali, Lombok and Sumbawa, in the north to the southern Philippine islands of Palawan, Busuanga, Culion and southwestern Mindanao. In the Indian sub-continent they come from the southern foothills of the Himalayas to Sri Lanka before, in southern China in Yunnan, Guangdong, Guangxi and Hong Kong.

Focus of biodiversity is the triangle formed by the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo. Scientists suspect this is to find the origin of the kind here and had a significant influence on the speciation repeated transgressions and re- rising sea levels during the last ice ages.

Eleven species which do not form a monophyletic group, live in the Greater India, ( Gaoligong Shan, Tenasserim Mountains ) is cut off from Southeast Asia geographically by mountains in Burma.

Features

Rasbora species are slender, three to twenty inches long expectant fish. The mouth is terminal or slightly upper constant, the lower jaw is often something about. You have no barbels. The lateral line starts at the upper edge of the gill cover, then is curved downward and remains on the caudal peduncle, as with all barb, below the midsection. The scales are relatively large. Their anal fin has only five, split -fin rays, the dorsal fin begins over or only briefly behind the pelvic fins. Most Rasbora species are colored quite simple, many people have at the sides of a longitudinal strip, a few are reddish or have a reddish drawing. The latter are popular aquarium fish.

Rasbora species are not schooling fish in the strict sense, but live in social groups that live in the middle and upper areas of their home waters. For reproduction, but each one male and one female in the short term from.
