Ready Steady Go

Ready Steady Go, RSG short, was one of the first rock and pop music shows on British television. The first show was in August 1963, the last in December 1966. During this period, the British rock and pop music conquered the world.

The show ran on Friday evenings and rang with the slogan The weekend starts here! the weekends. The opening tune was Manfred Mann's 5-4-3-2-1 (later replaced by Hubble Bubble, Toil and Trouble, also of Manfred Mann).

Initially, the bands and performers appeared to playback, from the end of 1964 were some, from April 1965 all performances live. The guests were allowed to play their songs in full, not in cut versions, as was often required in other shows.

Among the guests of the show included, among others, the Beatles, Gerry & the Pacemakers, The Rolling Stones, Donovan, the Dave Clark Five, Dusty Springfield, Bobby Vee, the Animals, Cilla Black, The Searchers, The Who, Georgie Fame & the Blue Flames, Billy Fury, Lulu, Van Morrison, Marvin Gaye, Gene Pitney, The Beach Boys, Sandie Shaw, Burt Bacharach, Samantha Jones, Jerry Lee Lewis, Kenny Lynch and Them. Even lesser-known artists were given a chance to address, such as Peter Cook and Dudley Moore.

1966, when the beat music lost its popularity, the show was canceled.
