Region Sønderjylland–Schleswig

By Region South Jutland -Schleswig formalized cross-border cooperation between municipalities Tønder, Aabenraa, Haderslev and Sønderborg and the Region Syddanmark on the Danish and the district of Schleswig -Flensburg, North Friesland and the city of Flensburg is called on the German side.

The Region South Jutland -Schleswig was founded on 16 September 1997 in Aabenraa and is a so-called European region, a formalized cooperation between two or more cross-border regions. The organizational work for the Region South Jutland -Schleswig is perceived in the region office in Padborg.

Name

The Name Region South Jutland -Schleswig draws attention to the historical roots that has the cross-border cooperation. Both Schleswig and Jutland are terms that refer to the old Duchy of Schleswig, which was divided after the 1920 demarcation between Denmark and Germany. The southeastern part of Schleswig or South Jutland, which is part of the district of Rendsburg- Eckernförde today is not involved in the cooperation.

Laws and Regulations

The cooperation partners continue to be subject to their national legislation. The cooperation relies on the European Charter of Border and Cross -Border Regions, which was adopted by the Association of European Border Regions 1995. This cooperation builds on the principle of equality and respect for the cultural identity of each respective page and that decisions are made jointly and in consensus. The region has its seat where the partners have decided to locate the Secretariat of the Organization.

Objectives

There are several objectives of cross-border cooperation. First of all, there is a desire to contact and exchange between the populations to intensify, the more mutual understanding and improved knowledge leads to longer term from each other. For this purpose, promotes the Region South Jutland -Schleswig cultural projects, such as through the INTERREG project cultural dialogue. Teacher exchanges, university cooperation and language projects have a very high priority.

Organization

The organization consists of the board, committees and expert groups as well as from the Secretariat or the region office. The Board consists of eight members. Currently, the CEO Hans Philip Tietje is as representative of the Region Syddanmark. The tasks are varied: The Executive Board prepares resolutions and works closely with the regional office together. The Executive Board may set up specialized groups for specific tasks. Finally, the Management Board is the Region South Jutland -Schleswig outward. Resolutions are adopted by majority vote, but in principle but a consensus is sought. There is currently a permanent Committee: The Committee on Culture, contact and cooperation. In addition, some professional groups have been established. Finances
