René Auberjonois

René Murat Auberjonois ( born June 1, 1940 in New York City ) is an American actor and voice actor, best known for his role of Odo in the television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Life

His grandfather was the Swiss painter René Auberjonois. His father Fernand was a journalist, married to the French princess Louise Laure Murat, descendant of the Napoleonic marshal and King of Naples, Joachim Murat, and a sister of Napoleon Caroline Bonaparte. Shortly after the Second World War, the family moved to Paris, where to become Auberjonois at the age of six years decided actor when he was cast in the school in a musical.

The family moved from Paris in a New York artist neighborhood where René Auberjonois met musician, composer and actor. There he also met his future mentor, John Houseman, from whom he received his first job in the theater at age 16.
