History

As was the canton of Appenzell in 1597 into a Catholic and a Protestant canton part divided, wanted the Catholic majority of Hirschberg stay with Innerrhoden, while the Reformed minority Ausserrhoden wanted. In the land division letter was therefore determined that possession that belonged to the Reformed families, were among Ausserrhoden. The result of making such division Reformed congregation called itself now newly Reute.
