The community association Rhens is an administrative unit in the form of a local authority in the district of Mayen -Koblenz in Rhineland- Palatinate. The municipality consists of three independent local churches and the city Rhens. The head office is located in the eponymous city.

History

The origins of the community association Rhens date back to the time of the French annexation of the left bank of the Rhine after 1794, when in the canton of Boppard with the Mairie Rhens the surrounding communities a comprehensive management unit with Rhens was established as a center for the first time. These included, in addition Rhens also forest Esch, Brey, now belonging to communities Spay low and Oberspay and Udenhausen and chapels. After the Rhineland was slammed to the Congress of Vienna Prussia, these French administrative structures have been resolved. Rhens, wood ash and chapels were part of the mayoralty of Koblenz- land in the district of Koblenz- country Brey and Spay part of the mayor's Boppard- land in the district of St. Goar. Udenhausen was part of the mayor's neck Bach. 1927, the mayor's name was converted into office.

By order of the Koblenz district president of 28 June 1937 resolved and the Office Rhens, with headquarters in Rhens formed from the communities Rhens, wood ash and chapels Pride Rock at the end of the 30th June 1937, the Office of Koblenz- country. Brey and Spay remained part of the Office Boppard.

As part of the administrative and territorial reform in 1969 - since 1968, the term " office administration" were replaced by " community association management," was the fifth state law on administrative simplification in the land of Rhineland- Palatinate on February 14th, 1969 with effect from 7 June in 1969, the municipality Chapel pride rock dissolved and incorporated into the territory of the city of Koblenz. Similarly, the communities Brey and Spay were dissolved with the dissolution of the district of St. Goar from office Boppard and incorporated into the district of Koblenz.

By the Eighth Provincial Law of 28 July 1970, re-formed with effect from November 7, 1970 the current municipality Rhens from the communities Brey, Rhens, Spay and wood ash.

Seat of the municipal administration is in the town of Rhens that spatial planning is recognized as a basic center.

Since the municipality Rhens is concerned with their under 9000 inhabitants of the new municipal and administrative reform in September 2010, which provides a resolution of associated municipalities below 12,000 inhabitants, the municipality Rhens began merger talks with the municipality Untermosel to a forced merger forestall. The merger to create new resulting therefrom community association Rhein-Mosel is to be implemented on 1 July 2014. Principal office is Kobern- Gondorf Rhens itself will retain its own administrative body.

Before the merger was decided by the municipality Untermosel, also a connection to the city of Koblenz or Boppard was discussed. Both, however, would affect county boundaries, as well as impaired to make sovereign decisions the possibilities of local communities.
