Richard Alexander (British politician)

Richard Thain Alexander ( born June 29, 1934 in Aberdeen, † April 20, 2008 in Newark-on -Trent ) was a British politician of the Conservative Party.

After studying law at University College London and the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Alexander was as a solicitor from 1960-1964 in Scunthorpe and from 1964 to 1985 in Retford, Nottinghamshire. In 1977 he was Mayor of Retford.

At the general election in 1966 and 1970, he joined unsuccessfully for the electoral district of Lincoln. In the 1979 election, he was in the constituency of Newark scarce and unexpectedly the candidate of the Labour Party, Edward Stanley Bishop, beat and moved into the House of Commons. He lost his seat in the successful election for the Labour Party in 1997.

Alexander was married to Valerie Ann Winn since 1966, the couple had a son and a daughter. After the separation in 1979 and divorce in 1985 married Alexander 1987 Pat Hanson.
