Richard Anthony Burke

Richard Anthony Burke PLC ( born February 19, 1949 in Clonmel ) is retired Archbishop of Benin City.

Life

Richard Anthony Burke joined the Congregation of St. Patrick's Society for Foreign Missions and put the profession on October 1, 1971. The auxiliary bishop in Dublin, James Kavanagh, ordained him on June 7, 1973 deacon and retired bishop of Calabar, James Moynagh PLC, ordained him a priest on May 18, 1975.

John Paul II appointed him on 6 December 1995 on the Coadjutor Bishop of Warri. He received his episcopal consecration, the Pope personally on 6 January of the next year; Co-consecrators were Giovanni Battista Re, substitute of the Secretariat of State, and Jorge María Mejía, secretary of the Congregation for Bishops.

After the retirement Edmund Joseph Fitzgibbons PLC he followed him on 3 March 1997 by the Bishop of Warri. Pope Benedict XVI. 24 December 2007 appointed him Apostolic Administrator of Warri and of this office he resigned on March 29, 2010. On 24 December 2007 he was appointed Archbishop of Benin City and introduced into the office on 7 March of next year. From his office he resigned on 31 May 2010.
