Richard Edgcumbe, 1st Baron Edgcumbe

Sir Richard Edgcumbe, 1st Baron Edgcumbe (* 1680, † November 22, 1758 ) was a British politician.

Life

Richard Edgcumbe came from the noble family Edgcumbe. He was the second son of Richard Edgcumbe (1640-1688) and his wife Anne Montagu, daughter of the 1st Earl of Sandwich. After his older brother Piers 1694 death, he was family heritage. In 1698 he graduated with a Master of Arts his education at Trinity College, Cambridge from. He was several times delegate in the House of Commons in 1701 for St. Germans, 1702-1734 for Plympton and 1734-1741 for Lostwithiel.

He supported the policy of Robert Walpole and has held various government positions in 1716, including from 1716 to 1717 and from 1720 to 1721 as Lord Commissioner of the Treasury, from 1724 to 1742 as Vice - Treasurer and Paymaster General for Ireland. After the fall of Walpole in 1742 he was raised to the 1st Baron Edgcumbe. In 1742 he became Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, which he remained until his death. Family
