Richard Simpson (politician)

Richard Simpson ( born 1942 in Edinburgh) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labour Party.

Life

Simpson attended Perth Academy and Trinity College Glenalmond in Perth and the University of Edinburgh. He worked in the episode as a general practitioner and psychiatrist.

Political career

In the Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 Simpson won the direct mandate of the constituency Ochil and moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament. After the death of the First Minister Donald Dewar, the interim guidance by Henry McLeish and the swearing of Jack McConnell as First Minister in November 2001, Simpson was appointed Deputy Minister of Justice. A year later, Simpson broke with the designation of striking firefighters as fascist bastards a wave of outrage, as a result he resigned in late November 2002 by his office, but retained his seat in Parliament.

In the parliamentary elections in 2003, he joined again to for Ochil, but was defeated by the SNP candidate, George Reid. Since on the basis of the election results for the Labour Party in the election Region Mid Scotland and Fife no list candidates were sent to parliament, Simpson lost his seat in the parliamentary elections in 2007 came Simpson on the list of Mid Scotland and Fife to parliament. As part of the constituency reform of 2011, the Ochil constituency was abolished. A good part of the area went up in the newly created constituency of Clackmannanshire and Dunblane, for the Simpson took in the parliamentary elections of 2011. He defeated the candidate of the SNP significantly, but gained back as a list candidate for Mid Scotland and Fife a seat in Parliament. During this legislative period, Simpson deals with topics from the areas of health and care.
