Rickard Rydell

Rickard Rydell ( born September 22, 1967 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish racing driver.

He started with the racing in a kart and won in this category, the Swedish championship in 1984 and 1985. Starting in 1986, he drove in the Swedish and from 1989 in the British Formula 3 In this series, he started for the team of Eddie Jordan, won one race at Thruxton and was third overall in the championship. In 1990 he went to the British Formula 3000 Championship at the start and finished fourth in the overall standings. In this year also he went in a group -C1 - Porsche in Japan. In 1991 he returned to the British Formula 3 and took a victory and pole position for the prestigious Macau Grand Prix. The following year he raced in the Japanese Formula 3, where he was third overall, and won the Macau Grand Prix. He was second in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship in 1993.

In 1994 he moved to touring car in the BTCC, where it was a Volvo 850 estate. The team moved to the 1995 season for the sedan version of the Volvo 850 and Rydell took in 13 of the 24 races in pole position. But some slow starts meant that he could only win four races in the championship and took third place, just like in the following season. In 1997, he won only one race, but in 1998 he was able to secure the BTCC title and also won the Bathurst 1000, where he shared a Volvo S40 with Jim Richards. In the years 1999 and 2000, he came third in the BTCC in a Ford 2001, he waited for the completion of his Volvo for the European Touring Car Championship ( ETCC ) and drove in the meantime in a Ferrari 550 Maranello racing in the FIA GT Championship.
