Ried bei Kerzers (often just Ried Ried or b Kerzers, formerly Upper Ried, see " Name and mergers ." ) Is a municipality in the lake district (French: District du Lac ) of the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. The French name of the municipality is Essert. Ried bei Kerzers is therefore not to be confused with the villages of Upper Ried FR and FR Essert that are in the town of Le Mouret.

On 1 January 2006, the previously independent eastern neighboring community Agriswil (French Agrimoine ) was incorporated into bei Kerzers.

Geography

Ried bei Kerzers is located at 511 m above sea level. M., 6 km east-northeast of the district town of Murten and 2.5 km south-southwest of Kerzers (air line). The scattered village stretches along the edge of a high plateau south of the Great Marsh, in the northern Fribourg plateau.

The area of ​​7.6 km ² large municipality area includes a section of the Great Marsh and the adjacent Molassehöhen. The southern part of the municipality with the village is occupied by a plateau which is bounded on the east by the valley of the Biberen, to the west of the trough of the Galmizbaches. The plateau is divided by small valleys and hills. In the south of the municipal area to the hole forest reaches, the Bruyerenholz, in the 544 m above sea level. M. the highest point of bei Kerzers is achieved, and the amount of Riederen to Guggmärliwald.

To the north extends the communal land in the intensively farmed level of the Great Marsh, which is traversed by the Beaver Canal and the Great Canal. The Rieder municipality covers here from south to north, the hallways Tommen, Teufi, length mats and Agriswilmoos. From the municipality surface 1997 11 % came from settlements, 7% of the forest and woody plants and 82 % to agriculture.

At bei Kerzers include the village Agriswil, the hamlet Gurzelen (460 m above sea level. M. ) on the southern edge of the Great Marsh as well as some individual farms. Neighboring towns of Ried bei Kerzers are Kerzers, Gurbrü, Ferenbalm, Gempenach, Murten, Galmiz and an exclave of Murten in the canton of Fribourg and Müntschemier and Gurbrü in the canton of Bern.

Population

With 1029 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Ried bei Kerzers belongs to the smaller municipalities of the canton of Fribourg. Of these, 690 live in Ried and 152 in Agriswil. Of the residents, 91.3 % speak German, 3.2% and 2.9 % portugiesischsprachig speak French ( as of 2000). The population of bei Kerzers amounted in 1900 to 695 inhabitants (including Agriswil ). During the 20th century, the population fluctuated in the range of 620-690 inhabitants. Only since 1980 (608 inhabitants) a significant population growth was recorded.

Economy

Ried bei Kerzers was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by agriculture village. Even today, agriculture, cultivation of vegetables, fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population.

More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. A commercial zone has developed on the main road from Murten to Kerzers. Today, companies in the construction and transport industry, food processing, machine tool manufacturing, natural stone, and carpentry and fine mechanical workshops are represented in Ried bei Kerzers. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location and into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions of Murten and Kerzers and in the agglomeration of Bern.

Traffic

The community is conveniently moderately well developed, even though it is off the major thoroughfares on a road from Kerzers after Ulmiz. The nearest links to the A1 ( Bern -Lausanne ) which runs through the municipality, located 2 km from the center. By Postbus course, which runs from Kerzers after Duedingen, Ried is connected at Kerzers to the network of public transport.

School system

The primary school visit the children in the ABGRU Rieder, a school network of villages Agriswil, Büchslen, Gempenach, Ried and Ulmiz. Ried has its own school building, which is used by certain stages of ABGRU. History

The territory of bei Kerzers was settled very early, which could be demonstrated by finds of graves from the Bronze Age and the Hallstatt period. During the Roman period, it served two farms that were destroyed by Christ at the invasion of the Alemanni to 260.

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1277 under the name of vineyards; 1318 a French version is delivered with eaters first time. Since the Middle Ages was under Ried bei Kerzers the reign of Murten. 1475 reached the village as part of the bailiwick of Murten under the joint administration of the estates of Bern and Fribourg. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) Ried came in Kerzers the canton of Fribourg. During the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time it belonged to the district of Murten, before it was incorporated in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution in the lake district.

Name and mergers

By 1902, the village was called Upper bei Murten and was officially named Upper Ried (lake). From 1902 to 1911 was the official name Ried. Because this also led to confusion, in 1912 the current community name Ried bei Kerzers has been introduced.

As part of since 2000 sponsored by the Canton of Fribourg municipal mergers was amalgamated with effect from 1 January 2006, the hitherto independent Agriswil to Ried bei Kerzers.

Attractions

In the center some characteristic farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved. Ried bei Kerzers has one of the oldest preserved granary of Canton, it dates from the 16th century. The furnace house built in 1831 is still used occasionally for baking bread. Ried bei Kerzers has no church of its own, it belongs proportionately to the parishes Murten and Ferenbalm.

The family roots of U.S. President Barack Obama can be traced back to Hans Gutknecht mother's (* 1692 ) from bei Kerzers. Therefore, the municipality appointed the U.S. President in 2010 an honorary citizen.
