Rishirifuji, Hokkaido
Rishirifuji (Japanese利 尻 富士 町, -chō ) is a town in the district of Rishiri in the sub-prefecture of Hokkaido Soya on an island in the Sea of Japan.
Etymology
The name comes from the volcano Rishirifuji Rishiri, which is also compared with the Fuji and so called Rishiri Fuji. Rishiri comes from Ainu riishiri, which means "Island of the high mountain ."
Geography
Rishirifuji is located geographically in the eastern part of the island of the Sea of Japan and politically in the district of Rishiri extends exclusively over the whole island. The western part of the island belongs politically to the neighboring town of Rishiri. On the border between the two is the summit of the 1,721 m high volcano Rishiri. Another mountain is 444 meters high Pon -yama (ポン 山). The city center and the port is located on the Peshi Cape (ペシ岬, Peshi - misaki ).

History
The county Rishiri on the island in 1869 and 1876 is divided into 28 large and 4 small districts. 1878 follows the division into the six villages ( mura ) Oshidomari (鸳 泊 村, -mura ), Ishizaki (石 崎 村, -mura ), Oniwaki (鬼 胁 村, -mura ), Senhōshi (仙 法 志 村, -mura ), Kutsugata (沓 形 村, -mura ) and Hontomari (本 泊 村, -mura ). With the establishment of a town hall in Oshidomari 1880 all villages are managed from this point. 1892 will Hontomari and Kutsugata to outside villages or hamlets of Oshidomari 1893 Ishizaki and Senhōshi to outer villages of Oniwaki. 1899 Kutsugata from Oshidomari and 1900 Senhōshi from Oniwaki is outsourced, and each set up a town hall, which both stand-alone communities, from which later the modern city of Rishiri formed. 1902 Ishizaki is incorporated in Oniwake and appointed Oniwake and Oshidomari to municipalities 2nd class. 1956 will Oniwake and Oshidomari to the village Higashirishiri (东 利 尻 村, -mura, dt " East Rishiri " ) combined and appointed three years later for chō. In 1990, the community changed its name to Rishirifuji.

The island and thus the city is part of Rishiri Rebun Sarobetsu National Park.

Traffic
In Rishirifuji closest airport Rishiri whose only connection is an ANA - line to the New Chitose Airport in Chitose. Economy
