Rishon LeZion

Rishon LeZion (Hebrew ראשוןלציון, IPA: [ ʀiʃɔn lɛtsiɔn ], in German "First for ( to ) Zion ", Arabic ريشون لتصيون, also in different transcriptions such as Rishon LeZion ) is a major city in Israel in the southern part of Greater Tel Aviv -Yafo, around ten kilometers south of Tel Aviv in the so-called Gush Dan. With 224,300 inhabitants (2007 ) it is the fourth largest city in Israel to Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa.

History

Rishon LeZion was founded in 1882 as Moschawa by Russian immigrants and was therefore one of the first Jewish agricultural settlements of the modern era in Israel today.
