River Moy

The River Moy rises at Knocknashee in the Ox Mountains in County Sligo and initially flows in a southwesterly direction. A few kilometers northeast of Swinford, located at one of its tributaries, he crosses the line into County Mayo, where the River Moy flows for the most part. At the level of Lough Cullin, which he connects with Lough Conn and both with the Atlantic Ocean, the Moy turns northward and flows through Foxford and Ballina on the Killala Bay in the Atlantic Ocean.

The Moy was one of the best salmon fishing grounds in Europe; However, drift-net fishing off the coast caused a sharp decline in the number of returning fish ( in 2005, more than 100,000 salmon off the Irish west coast drift net intercepted ). Since January 2007, the drift-net fishing for salmon is now banned.
