Foxford

Foxford ( Irish: Béal Easa; German as: " mouth of the waterfall ") is a town in County Mayo in the west of Ireland.

The place

Foxford lies in the northeastern part of the county Mayo, east of Lough Conn and Lough Cullin on the River Moy. The town developed around the Woolen Mills, in the since 1892 the Foxford blankets are produced; here today is one of the visitor centers in the province of Connacht to find. Situated between Nephin and Ox Mountains, tourism is one of the main sources of income for the town; of the 86 km long Foxford Way marked trail as it opens up the sights of various kinds, has to offer the area. Right through Foxford leads the world-famous salmon river River Moy.

At the 2006 Census lived in Foxford 1,058 persons, representing an increase of 20 % since 2002.

Transport links

Foxford is located 16 km south of Ballina on the national road N26 from Ballina to Swinford on the N5. With Castlebar, about 20 km south-west area, Foxford is connected via the N58.

On the rail transport in Ireland Foxford since 1988, after the reopening of the closed station in 1963, reconnected via Ballina branch line and Manulla Junction for intercity Dublin- Westport the Iarnród Éireann.
