Rivera

Rivera was, until November 20, 2010 a municipality in the district tavern in the district of Lugano in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

On 25 November 2007, the merger of the seven churches in Vedeggio Valley was approved by the voters of five municipalities: Bironico, Camignolo, Medeglia, Rivera and Sigirino would have therefore have to merge to the municipality Monteceneri. Isone and Mezzovico- Vira rejected the merger. As a result, the State Council decided not to submit to the Grand Council a forced merger of the two hostile communities. Monteceneri was therefore formed only from the five consenting communities.

Geography

Rivera is located approximately in the middle between the cantonal capital Bellinzona and the regional economic center of Lugano. The community is located at the southern foot of the historic Monte Ceneri and east of the larger and more well-known because of his things to do Monte Tamaro. The Gotthard A2 highway cuts through the town in two parts, but offers with the nearby port Rivera direct access to the major north -south axis.

History

The name Rivera and his three hamlets Sorencino, Soresina and Capidogno first appears on 1300. Only belonging to Como, Rivera is delivered in 1335 to the Visconti of Milan. Then it belongs to 1798 to the bailiwicks of Confederation. 1803 gets the Switzerland with the Act of Mediation much of their autonomy back and Rivera is a municipality in the now independent canton of Ticino.
